Get to know the Chef
What are your top 5 kitchen tools?
Tasting spoon, chef’s knife, wooden spoon, hand blender, microplane
What is your favorite culinary destination?
What smell evokes a wonderful memory?
The smell of a tomato plant. When I was a little girl, my grandparents had a garden from which my grandmother picked tomatoes. She would peel and slice them and serve sliced tomatoes with every meal.
What do you have that is interesting in your refrigerator?
Like most chefs, my refrigerator is bare! The only thing I make for myself is cereal!
When did you discover you wanted to cook for a living? What was the defining moment?
After I graduated from college I started cooking every night after work. At a certain point, I started spending all day at work planning dinner and I realized how much more I was interested in planning and not in working. The defining moment was when I began to tour culinary schools. The moment that I stepped onto the campus at The Culinary Institute of America, I knew it was exactly where I was supposed to be!
How do you decompress?
Eat ice cream!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
If I knew, I would try and get there faster!
If you were not a cook/chef, what would you be?
