Let me be the first to introduce you to our new Cheese Monger & Cheese Buyer, Matt Hart! He joins our team after four years at Whole Foods Chapel Hill following time at the acclaimed Pasta Shop in San Francisco. Matt brings with him a wealth of knowledge, an incredible palate and a terrific eye, showcasing beautiful displays of grandeur. To top it off he is an avid home-brewer (He gave me a Christmas Ale over the holidays that was out of this world; a hybrid IPA/Belgium Ale style that had perfect blend of sweet, yet bitter flavor) which you can try as you get your hair done, free of charge at his wife’s salon in Durham! What could be better?
It’s awesome to have Matt coming on board at such a pivotal time in Southern Season’s development. As many already know, we will be opening our second store in Charleston later on this year, with more to follow, so to have someone with his expertise in cheese & logistics will prove incredibly valuable.
Matt will continue to write our blog & host cheese-oriented classes.
For me, I will be retiring my post here after two and a half years to join an exciting expansion process with Goat Lady Dairy , an artisan Goat’s cheese producer in Randolph County. Currently, GLD is undergoing a complete makeover, with a brand new cheese room installation and an amazing new partnership with Lindale Organic Dairy of Chatham County. Look for your favorite spreads and mold-ripened cheeses in the spring as well as new ones on the horizon!
The picture is the old Cheese room at Goat Lady Dairy. The new facility will be built in the background space, which began life as a barn.
I am thrilled to be a part of the extended Southern Season family and I can’t wait to see what happens in years to come. In my time here, I have worked and met some amazing people who have taught me so much. It was an honor and thank you, Southern Season, for such a wonderful opportunity.
Best,
Alexander Kast
