With a passion for food and a natural “gift of gab,” Jay White, vice president of new store development for Southern Season, took on the role as general manager for the Chapel Hill location in August 2014.
Born in Montana, White moved frequently due to his father’s work, but spent his formative years in upstate New York near Niagara Falls. After receiving a degree in Political Science at Middlebury College in Vermont, White decided against the law school path and instead explored his love for traveling and cooking by attending The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. After graduation, White explored different areas of the culinary world – from working as an account executive and food stylist for an advertising agency in Seattle, Wash. to managing America’s oldest inn, the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
In 1994, White moved to North Carolina and began his career with Southern Season, a tenure that now encompasses over 20 years of restaurant experience, culinary expertise and customer service with the store. As VP of new store development, White led the Charleston, S.C., opening in September 2013 and the Richmond, Va., location, in July 2014. As general manager for Southern Season’s flagship store in Chapel Hill, White’s ultimate goal is to ensure every customer has a memorable experience whether shopping, dining at the restaurant or attending class at the cooking school. White and the talented Southern Season staff help guarantee a truly unique visit for every customer. White will be heading up the team that will carry on the legacy of Southern Season’s tradition of quality products and customer service.
