I want to introduce you to twelve of our favorite French winemakers. (If only we could corral them in one room!) They are men and women of the land, with dirt under their fingernails, with an unwavering commitment to protecting the special wines of their vineyards and villages etched deeply into their character. They are meticulous farmers who know quality starts on the vine, and are consequently reverent of nature. They are averse to wine fads unnecessary technology and safe, artless winemaking. Their reward is small quantities of alive, truly individual and expressive wine, that transports us to their land and reminds all who taste it of why it is a special place. These wines are truly food products, to be enjoyed with lovingly crafted meals. They are exactly what keeps me loving wine they make the gears of this wine buyer's brain spin and make my heart beat faster. They are very much swimming upstream, in today's wine market. They do not offer up an innocuous, simplified, internationalized version of wine, they refuse to make a mockery of wine by taking the sterile, coca-cola palate, sweet fruit and low-price low road to financial gain (don't forget the marsupial label!). The world of food is richer and more diverse, thanks to the efforts of vignerons like these we have here. Enjoy meeting them!
